Shown on this slide is an overview on the AS1130. This device is available in the small wafer level package or in the SSOP package which allows easier prototyping. A single AS1130 can drive up to 132 LEDs, either single or multi-color. Each LED has its own 8-bit PWM, each segment offers an 8-bit analog current control and also there is an 8-bit global analog brightness control. Additionally the chip includes an internal error diagnostic to detect open or shorted LEDs. To handle animations more easily the device includes an internal memory which stores up to thirty six frames of picture data as well as the possibility of using the scroll function. Up to eight AS1130s can be handled on a single I²C bus and multiple AS1130 will synchronize themselves automatically to assure perfectly smooth animations.
