This is a generalized representation of an ADC. There is an analog input and a digital output as well as a sampling clock. The sampling clock may also be called "encode command" in some ADCs. In many, but not all ADCs, a signal is provided to indicate the end of conversion, data ready, etc. Like DACs, ADCs may have internal or external references.
