For the best ADC accuracy, a low noise reference with good temperature coefficient is required. The reference can be integrated into the ADC or it can be supplied externally. The LTC246x family of 16-bit delta sigma ADCs have an integrated precision reference with typical temperature coefficients of 2ppm/°C or 10ppm/°C maximum. Integrating the reference alleviates the need for an external reference, a key benefit for space-constrained applications. The integrated reference also means a poorly regulated or noisy supply does not set the reference bias for the ADC.
