Lithium Polymer Batteries

Jauch's Lithium Polymer (LiPo) batteries offer advantages such as higher energy density relative to their total weight than lithium-ion cells, aluminum-laminated films as their housing, resulting in a lighter and thinner battery, and highly flexible cell size and shape. Many smartphones and GPS devices use LiPo batteries. The space for the power supply installation is usually limited and is often already clear long before the battery assembler or distributor needs to be contacted.

LiPo batteries are ideal for flexible designs. They are available with lithium technology and come in a wide variety of designs and sizes. Customized designs are possible with these batteries. They are available at relatively low production volumes so that the existing space for the battery can be utilized optimally. The variety of sizes presents greater freedom in the final product's design. One advantage is the almost infinite number of sizes since plastic-coated aluminum foil is used instead of steel for housings, so very thin cells can be manufactured. LiPo cells, also called soft or pouch cells, are a bit lighter.

A disadvantage is the higher battery sensitivity due to the lack of a solid housing, which must be strictly considered when using the battery to avoid mechanical damage. LiPo cells are negatively affected by overcharging. They are provided with a protection circuit that protects them from overcharging. These batteries should only be charged with chargers specified for that battery’s chemistry.
