As mentioned earlier, the mode or type of switch determines how the current limit switch will respond to an overcurrent condition. In Auto-Retry, the switch turns back on after an overcurrent event occurs. Then, if the overcurrent condition is still present, the switch turns off and the cycle repeats. In Latch-Off, when an overcurrent occurs, the switch turns off and remains off until the supply voltage is turned off and then back on. In Continuous current limit mode, when the forward current reaches the forward current limit threshold, the current limit switch IC limits the output current to a preset or user-programmed current limit level.
