Yet another form of current limit protection is reverse current protection which detects current going through the switch in the reverse direction and turns off the switch if the current exceeds a specified threshold. Thermal shutdown protection is also important because it protects the IC from overheating by turning off the current limit switch device and asserting a fault immediately when the junction temperature exceeds a certain value. These devices exit thermal shutdown after the junction temperature cools by about 10% or so.
