This shows the connector offerings for the external Mini-SAS standard, SFF-8088. As previously noted, this standard is based on a four-lane (4 differential pair) configuration. Three components are part of the standard: A 26 circuit SMT host connector, a die cast EMI guide frame, available in single (1x1), dual (1x2) or quad (1x4) versions, and a shielded plug cable assembly. To prevent mis-mating between SAS and SATA versions, unique color-coding and keying schemes were developed. There are 3 different SAS key positions, with different combinations used depending on the application. SATA standard uses a RED color code and 3 keying positions – both different than SAS to prevent mis-mating.
