If asked to describe the ideal connectivity solution for Internet of Things applications, most developers would come to a consensus around the following: First, they would describe a solution that has a long range, as this would enable a device to be placed and go anywhere. Many IoT application designs require sensors to be placed in more locations in order for the state of everything to be known. Some of these locations do not have easy access to a power source, and so, as anyone who has changed a smoke alarm battery in the middle of the night can tell, long battery life matters. So, developers would also say that it’s crucial for a device to have a long battery life. Lastly, as with many technologies, while the solution may exist, the cost of the solution can put it out of reach for most IoT embedded devices. Therefore, a connectivity solution that is also low cost would be high on the developers list of ideal elements.
