The following portion of this presentation will discuss the area of TV backlighting. Microchip's LED drivers support both edge-lit and direct backlight LCD configurations. All drivers incorporate an internal PWM engine with video sync capability that eliminates motion blur and a very wide dimming range (up to 12-bits), precision string control and string-to-string-matching. Comprehensive monitoring adjusts for LED aging, faults and thermal effects. Patented Microchip Adaptive Power Scaling™ technology also delivers significant power savings. The backlit LED TVs can be categorized into three categories based on the type of technical solution; direct lighting, edge lighting and 3D TVs. The table presented on this slide lists the LED driver ICs that match these categories and the different segments of flat panels they address. All Microchip microcontrollers can be used in combination with the LED driver ICs.
