Customers are being challenged to develop lower power systems. Renesas is addressing this need by designing low-power HCSL output alternatives to the traditional HCSL output PCI express devices. The low-power HCSL outputs use a push-pull output type that can save up to 85% power over the traditional HCSL outputs at 3.3V. With a VDDIO of 1.05V, even greater power savings can be achieved. In addition to power savings, using push-pull output types, only two termination resistors are needed instead of the traditional four on each output. On a 19-output buffer, 36 resistors will be reduced, saving BOM cost as well as board space.
