First of all, a “Telco BNC” must comply with NEBS-3 compliance. "NEBS Level 3" is a term from the Bellcore special report, SR-3580 which details three distinct functional levels of NEBS compliance based on GR-63-CORE and GR-1089-CORE. "NEBS Level 1" means that people and equipment hazards and network degradation are minimized. NEBS Level 1 addresses only personnel and equipment safety requirements, not operability. "NEBS Level 2" addresses equipment operability, but in a controlled environment. For example, equipment could be used in a data center, but only for non-critical operations if environmental extremes exist. Note that this level is very rarely used because it is ambiguous. "NEBS Level 3" means the equipment is in the network for the long haul. The equipment will operate under the environmental extremes found in a central office or other demanding applications like broadcast and military. In a nutshell, the equipment meets all of the requirements of GR-63-CORE and GR-1089-CORE. Only a BNC that meets this requirement can be termed a true “Telco BNC”. Trompeter is one of only a few companies that provide BNCs with NEBS Level 3 compliance. In addition to the GR-63 and GR-1089 standards, the Trompeter BNC conforms to several other extremely stringent standards such as Mil-C-39012 and TR-NWT-000357. Consequently, the Telco BNC is often used in Mil/Aero and other applications where absolute signal integrity even in severe operating environments is absolutely a must.
