White light emitting diodes (LEDs) are the future proof choice of lighting technology. High-brightness LEDs use a fraction of the power needed for bulb technology, they have much longer operating lifetimes, and do not endanger the environment. LED technology is used for automotive lighting systems, displays, mobile devices and many other applications. Most Microchip LED drivers are used in products that require multiple strings of LEDs. This illustration shows the major components involved in driving multi-string LED products. An Microchip LED driver IC can work with any AC/DC or DC/DC converter; there are no limitations on the number of LEDs strings, string voltage or LED string current. Microchip LED driver ICs can interface with any Microchip microcontroller. This is particularly useful in systems where sensors are used for adjusting the LEDs or turning them on or off.
