The ADI ADL5205 starts with the architecture of the ADA4961, but rather than using a fixed gain amp it uses a variable amplifier structure. In operation, the top end of the total gain of the device is controlled by the variable gain amp. As is shown on the next slide, the noise figure of the variable amp vs. gain is more or less constant, so that over the top 11 dB of gain range, the noise figure only changes by 1.2 dB.
