MGJ Series DC-DC Converters IGBT and MOSFET Gate Drivers

The MGJ2 series of 2 W high isolation dual output DC/DC converters from Murata Power Solutions are suitable for powering high-side and low-side gate drives in bridge circuits using insulated-gate bipolar transistors (IGBTs) and MOSFETs. Offering basic and supplementary insulation, with an isolation test voltage of 5.2 kV_DC and conforming to the internationally recognized safety standard UL60950 (pending), the MGJ2 series can provide a key element of the end-product’s safety insulation system.

Packaged in an industry-standard SIP format, they occupy a 1.96 cm² footprint and achieve a power density of 0.81 W/cm³. The series comprises 12 models offering nominal input voltages of 5, 12, 15, or 24 V_DC. For each input voltage there are three output voltage combinations available: +15/-5 V_DC, +15/-8.7 V_DC, or +20/-5 V_DC.

The MGJ3 and MGJ6 series of configurable output voltage, high isolation DC-DC converters from Murata Power Solutions are 3 W and 6 W surface-mounted devices optimized for use as high-side and low-side gate drivers in IGBT and MOSFET bridge circuit designs. Providing triple output voltages of +15, +5, and +5 V_DC, these converters provide optimum switching of IGBT drives for best overall system efficiency. In addition, the outputs are configurable to suit a number of different circuit requirements such as +15 and -5 V_DC or +20 and -5 V_DC.

Both the MGJ3 3 W and the MGJ6 6 W converters are available with a choice of wide input voltages around nominal +5, +12, or +24 V_DC inputs. The input ranges are 4.5 to 9 V_DC (+5 V_DC nominal), 9 to 18 V_DC (+12 V_DC nominal), and 18 to 36 V_DC (+24 V_DC nominal).

The MGJ3 measures 23.11 x 22.61 x 14.65 mm and the MGJ6 is 31.24 x 22.61 x 14.65 mm. Both series can operate over the wide temperature range from -40 to +105°C. Short circuit and overload protection features ensure a robust operation during system fault conditions. Other control inputs include an enable pin to facilitate power saving and a frequency synchronization input that aids EMC filter design.
