Ultra-Low Capacitance DF2B5M4ASL and DF2B6M4ASL ESD Protection Diodes

Toshiba’s ultra-low capacitance ESD protection diodes support high-speed communication standards such as Thunderbolt™ 3, HDMI®2.1 and USB 3.1. The DF2B5M4ASL supports a maximum working peak reverse voltage of 3.6 V, and DF2B6M4ASL supports 5.5 V. Tablets, laptop PCs, and game consoles minimize transfer times for video data or large files by using 10 Gbps or 48G bps high-speed communication standards. With the increasing miniaturization of the controller ICs used in these high-speed communication applications, ESD tolerances are decreasing, and it is necessary to enhance measures to counter ESD and surges from connectors. Not having ESD protection can cause critical faults such as communication errors and file damage.

Parts connected to high-speed communication lines have a large effect on signals; passive parts on printed circuit boards, such as capacitors and resistors, can distort signal waveforms. DF2B5M4ASL and DF2B6M4ASL reduce these influences with lower capacitance suitable for high-speed communications. Additionally, by optimizing the process, the products achieve a capacitance (typ.) of 0.15 pF, approximately 25% lower than most current products. This helps achieve stability in circuits designed for high-speed communications.

Low capacitance allows for minimal insertion loss. This performance is complemented with very high ESD immunity for its class. This series of ESD protection diodes is featured in the industry-standard SL2 (SOD-962) package which is commonly referred to as 0402. The DF2B5M4ASL and DF2B6M4ASL’s advantageous features protect high-speed data lines with high electrostatic immunity and low capacitance.
