The SlimLine cable assembly is a passive copper cable assembly which utilizes 3M twin axial cable technology. The resulting cable assembly is a highly routable, foldable, and low profile high-performance assembly ideal for SAS and PCIe interconnect in storage, networking, and high-performance computing applications. The high-performance twin axial cable construction provides excellent transmission properties, enabling a designer to effectively create SAS or PCIe connections inside a chassis. 3M twin axial cables provide excellent crosstalk performance and low insertion loss. These cable assemblies are used in enterprise, data center computer and storage applications.
They are ideal for space constrained systems since the unique cable ribbon construction enables folding and bending without adversely impacting performance. In addition, the ribbon's foldability provides more freedom to design folded cable assemblies optimized to maximize system density, streamline system assembly, and enhance airflow. The unique 3M core cable technology allows the cable assemblies to be extremely low profile enabling them to be routed through narrow openings between server components (such as fans, memory modules or heatsinks). Multiple folded cable assemblies can be efficiently stacked into a harness design in order to maximize space utilization, optimize cooling (by orientating low-profile ribbon to minimize airflow obstruction) and streamline the installation of the assembly in the system. They are available in straight and right angle x4 (8ES4 series) and x8 (8ES8 series) configurations.
